A Stylist Work is never done…

The Life style of a Hair Stylist is…”never done there’s always another Head work to be done”. I think God for the Gift of Cosmetology which has been rewarding and it’s a life where a part of my social outlet is from my chair…I love what I do and look early to the day when I can do it again…oh sure I get tired but who doesn’t..

Take today for example I arrived @ Mel’s Salon & Associate 6080 Woodward Ave., Detroit, MI. at my regular 8:15 am just another Saturday in the Salon…and I can’t wait till it’s over

I had a client but he text me on my way to the  Salon that he would reschedule for  tommorow…oh well

Boo to The Fool

Saturday ends the week for all those that like myself working every Saturday in The Salon .. I’m De Derrick…this Saturday was like any other Saturday stared out Great!.. on my way to the Salon connecting with my 7:00 am Fort St. run with connection with The Woodward Bus @ The Transit Center en route to Mel’s Salon & Associate where I’m a Hair Stylist/Barber I love my profession as a Hair/Stylist and I love to Ride the Professional ride of the Boo’Yah Man on The DOT.

The Boo’Yah Man  always seems to changes world directions of each fare in a positve manner; as soon as those doors open and you board you’re greeted with a Professional look of a driver with the lives of others @ his hands…I’ve watched him work and I feel very comfortable and relax to let him do the driving…His Boo’Yah signature  driving is extended to all his fares with a smile Boo’Yah dapp . The ride down Fort St was nothing different as our driver set the conversation of an early morning ride…

But by the time we arrived at Fort & Clark all hell broke.. and we ran into the devil..it begin when a guy boarded…a few words were exchange to the driver  and than those words got loader between the guy and the Boo’Yah…turns out the guy missed his stop…and The Boo’Yah instructed someone to wake him up…but they couldn’t and you think that this guy would take up with his losses and move on…this guy was pure hell to the driver and to everyone else on the bus by his load talk.

I never seen anything like the way this guy performed; it there was on reasoning with this guy trying to make it like it was the driver fault that he was late for work…boy this hell raising from this guy was unbelievable how he instated that it was The Boo’Yah faltal…man these two were going at it word for word but The Boo’Yah never lost control as he drove…while this guy try to dump all of his sorrow, grief and sin on The Boo’Yah…and The Boo’Yah was not having it…because it’s not his fatal at all The Boo’Yah try to tell him if he wanted to sleep just let the driver know….no not this guy that probably tied one over the night before or woke up late..this guy was a mess and now  that I had time to think I think prayer in order for that guy and many like him.

The Boo’Yah keep his cool as we approach downtown and let the guy out with a good day to you and the guy cursed The Boo’Yah out.. The guy was a Fool. That’s when The Boo’Yah lost it and boy did the coach hear the flip slide of The Boo’Yah..and that when the fun began to hear Boo’Yah talk about this man.. you handle it well better than most would have…4 Star for an outstanding ride and cool control on that wheel.

The Smile Ride on The Boo’Yah….come Blog with us uno dos tres who do we appreciate…Boo’Yah Baby your GREAT..Fool’s happen even in The Salon’s…you did the right thing to let it let it Go..

 

Care and Styling of the Hair

The give care of the normal scalp and its hair is the day-to-day attention which we give our scalp and hair to maintain its health and hair is just to increase its beauty. This definition would therefore not only include the usual brushing, combing, and similar preparations which have been developed to satisfy the hair fashions of the day.

Brushing

The implement chosen to brush the is just as important as the manner in which the brushing is to be performed. Brushing should be performed regularly night and morning, not because a hundred brush stokes each time were thought by our grandmother the to evoke luxuriant heads of hair, but because it aids combing by knotting tousled hair in a gentler fashion than the comb, and because it temporarily affects the circulation of the scalp.

Although brushing of the normal scalp is of some value, it must be modified in diseased states involving the hair.  Where the hair is weakened and its attachment is less than normal, frequent and vigorous brushing may increase hair fall and result in further damage to the sick hair. Under such conditions gentle massage of the scalp and the discontinuance of daily, vigorous brushing are advised.

Combing 

Combs are employed not only for unsparing tangled hair but also for the parting of the hair and its arrangement. No matter of what material the comb is made–whether ivory,shell, metal, or plastic–the teeth should be evenly spaced and separated sufficiently to make thorough cleaning between the teeth not to arduous task. A small nailbrush may be used to clean between the teeth to be certain that all grease, dandruff scales, and city dust and grime have been removed.  Sterilization may be assured  by using weak solutions of alcohol or ammonia.

I thank God that I love The Hair Styling Profession and proud to be a Cosometologist…and it makes my work easy.

Some folks hate their jobs and feel miserable coming and going…but I’m sure it’s not in your case. Tommorrow In The Salon…

The life Style of a Hair stylist is hard and fast…different in the normal walk of life of the  9 to 5 Monday thru TGIF and to me that’s Great …but that hard and fast life style don’t end Saturday..in the Salon…and it always amazes me when someone ask me do I work on Saturday…of course…that the salon busiest  day in the Salon…and I try not to miss.

Tomorrow is Saturday and if your follow my Saturday’s blogs or if this is your first time and I welcome you to the Day before Satauarday…and I can’t wait until it’s over…and I’m sure their’s someone there that knows what I’m talking about…So I’ll see you tomorrow with an up date on Saturday’s…in the Salon.

 

The Problem Is…

Raising prices. It’s a necessary evil of survival. It has to be done. But how do you do it? first of all, you should record how long you spend on each service-in minutes.

For example, shampoo and set 00 minutes, press and curl 00 minutes, relaxer 00 minutes, touch up relaxer 00 minutes, etc. Now, decide what you are worth a minute. multiply that worth by the time invested on each service and you have your base price.

For instance, if your worth is 0.60/minutes and shampoo and set takes 15 minutes–it would cost $9.00. If a relaxer absorbed 30 minutes — total — it would cost $18.00. A 2 hour curl would be $72.00. That’s for your time. List the materials used and their cost in a separate column and add the whole thing up.

Now, when costs go up, it is easy to show it.  You don’t lose money or customers. Doctors do it, mechanics do it, and plumbers do it. Professionals do it.

The Boo’ Yah Style

Hello.   I am De Derrick… and after a Long day @  Mel’s Salon & Associates 6080 Woodward Det., Mi, and; at the time I’m coming out of The Salon and walked across the street to the bus stop…it’s about 4:30 pm and I need to be downtown @ The Transit Center by 5:00 pm so I can jump on The Bassett Bus that ran down Fort St. – Schafer and then Bassett…this bus saves me a lot of steps; after a long day at work while trying to get home…and wouldn’t you know 2 Woodward Buses pasted that me by they were packed…it’s a sad thing when a person is trying to get home and being delayed…and a sad day for the City of Detroit..my home town..

After 2 years of riding The Detroit Department of Transportation I’ve seen a lot, my ears have heard a lot of  things I would like to forget but that’s life…

…After talking to a woman about the trouble The City Bus Service is in question is what can we do?  We also talk about hair coloring and I gave her a business card…I try not to miss out on a networking opportunity you never know…

I also shared with here while we waited on Bus #3; the new website I launched called The Hair Show Blogger.. that  features Hair Styling, Nail Art, Braiding and more…

Oh boy… #3 Woodward pulling up just in a nick of time…I running out of things to talk about….

When the Bus pulled up I was trying to see who was driving…and wouldn’t you know it The Boo’ Yah Man I thought I’ll be riding with him Saturday morning Fort St. Now for you motorist’s that don’t ride The DOT The Boo’  Yah Man has establish his presence on The DOT Bus Line with a Boo’ Yah dapp, a pleasing SMILE and a  good day to you from the Boo’ Yah Man…

It’s always good to see a smile behind the wheel as you board The DOT…

 especially under the condition the city is under…most drivers not all; but quite a few are driving with a short fuse…but when the Boo’ Yah pulls up @   your stop I am sure he is just as curiosity, polite giving the image of professionalizim…

It’s always good to ride with the Boo’ Yah Man and watched him work his professional magic of a smile. The Boo’ Yah Man and I’m comforted in knowing I’m in good hands…

Now on the other hand the devil is always busy @  work ; and it was with the driver on the 19 Fort St. The bus was loaded and behind schedule and the driver was in the square of the Transit Center smoking a cigaritte…by now the passenger  including myself was wondering…What’s up!!!

Turns out that the driver didn’t want to drive because; one of the fares called in on them about a previous matter and the Driver refuse to drive because he was in the back of the Bus out of their way, and paid their fare…The shift supervisor board and told us we had to exit another bus that was ready…but can you image the delay in scheduling time to arrived like myself home…conclution of this Blog…The Detroit Department of Transportation need more Boo’ Yah from your drivers…Think of how many schedule’s were off…

PS..No name was mention here because we all know his name kill steal and destroy know their

Boo’ Yah!!! Baby to the devil…

The Last Cut of

The only reason for cutting hair  is to add to one’s comfort and to keep up one’s appearance. The old-fashioned notion that frequent cutting of the hair and even shaving the scalp would augment its thickness has long since been completely discarded. The source of this fallacy must have been the gardener’s success at “cutting back” rose bushes and other shrubs to make them grow more successfully.

The hair of the head which the naked eye discerns is fully developed, so no shaving or cutting can possibly affect the rate of its growth or influence its thickness. Painstaking research independents proved the scientific fact that no part of the hair shaft above the surface of the scalp is capable of independent growth…All growth develop within the hair sheath…Take for example may last cut of a long day…Say hello to Reggie Jr… is a young man that takes it bladed.

Reggie is 12 years  plays the piano, and during well in school with the help of family mentors; and his Grandmother Vacie is my co-worker…and  we work side by side @ Mel’s Salon & Associate…so you know shes watching. The bladed Fade is a choice of style…and truly will  not augment its  thickness no way…frankly a Bladed Fade happen to be one of my specialties…it looks sharp and for the last Cut  of Today it saves time because there will be no lining…the lining is in the front..so my friends check Reggie Jr. and give us a “like”

tomorrow is the Salon’s end of the week; and like always for the last 20 years my comments are “I can’t wake until Saturday is over”…anyone ever felt this way…of course there plenty of Stylist, Barbers, Manicurists and everyone else associated with working in the Salon the Salon on Saturday’s… or maybe someone happens to work every Saturday as Stylist’s in The Salon..

The Week-end is upon us and it’s a holiday just as well…and I Week-end Plans to tell.

I know we all our plans to complete; but only after Saturday… In the Salon.

GMorning to a Blog world…Rainning outside in Detroit “The Hair Capital of the World”.

Nothing much as change but the on the calendar week…still looking for the end of  this  day so I can start 2 days of during what I want to do… I’m @ The Salon and the girls are coming in…I’m in the employee’s room which I call one office’s…here it’s big and spaces…Melvina…which everyone calls her Mel has real made use of ever corner of the build to have it comfortable for the Caliente’s, Employee’s & Herself.

Well I Thank God for this time in The Salon…but I just can’t wait until it’s over…. ring..ring cell phone….Hello Hi Gewn..yes I’m posted and  in scoring positions for a walk in…time to go to work “Q” is  coming in for a cut…
