I met Ms Green, back stage while Blogging @ a Hair Wars show. She was there supporting Sly Fox Photos that was in the show.

2 days later @ the New Center Grill she recognized me as the Blogger from backstage @ Hair Wars.

I’m so excited and  so is Bessie, she has never been to a Fashion show before, so this will be her first…hope to see you in the place.

GOOD NEWS IS…

Hump the Grinder’s Hair Wars, along with other Hair style Entertainers, all on board,… for the Hair Wars Reunion in Las Vegas, January 15 – 17, 2018.

BAD NEWS IS….

Because of family ties and obligations, the Hair Fighter have to stay @ home and miss fun and excitement of Hair Wars living it up in Las Vegas.

GOOD NEWS IS…

Hair Wars is scheduled to be @ Home April 15, 2018, Performing arts center, Dearborn, Michigan.

If the creek don’t raise, Bessie and I will be @ the next Hump the Grinder’s Hair Wars in 3 months.

The Hair Fighter, faster than a Quick Weave and stronger than Bonding Glue, I’m your friend until the end of split ends.

 

THE 10:00 AM APPOINTMENT

She walked into the Salon, tall, Black, Blonde and Beautiful with Hair down to her butt, boy this girl was rough.
She strutted over to the reception desk and said, my name is Sheryl Girly, and I like to keep my Hair tight and curly.
I’m going to the Hair Wars and l have an appointment with the Hair Fighter…Hair Fighter!, Hair Fighter!..your wanted up front.
Sherly Girly, hey girl!!…right on time…let’s go to the Shampoo bowl and get this style started.
Curl it real tight and let the curls fall through the week…remember my name, Sheryl Girly, I like to keep my Hair tight and curly.
There’s no need to fear to fear, the Hair Fighter is here.

 

Happy Blog Birthday

Thank God for another year of living it’s my birthday, June 18, 1952.

I acknowledge You in all your Greatness and your Glory and I thank you for another day.

Today is my Birthday, so now you know…

I, chose to celebrate it by reflecting on my past life style of accomplishment  in Relationships, Family, Friends, Spiritually, Physically, Financial, Social and my new-found love in music by playing the piano and drawing  see, last year Birthday Blog.

The first of the year began Great!!

A new-found love gifted from God above.

Her name is Bessie, different and yet charming, as well as unique and nice as could be.

We met @ the Second Look Hair Salon 18616 Grand River and was introduced to her by Amilia, Hair Stylist/Salon Owner.

Amillila, have known Bessie for sometime and felt she is a nice person seeking relationship like everyone else looking for love.

Bessie, prayer was for a nice man to talk with and her heart was open but not just for anyone but someone to treat her nice.

She cried a many of lonely nights, oh Lord!!… please send me someone nice to talk with after losing her 30 year mate, Dennis.

God, heard her cry and that’s where I come in.

I was also searching for a true and good relationship.

After, 10 years of  keeping to myself in fear of the hurt that most relationship may bring…and truly I’ve been hurt in the past.

I was alone but not lonely.

I was looking for someone to share my life with and was open to the suggestion of Amillia when she said that there was someone in the salon that wanted to talk to me it turned out to be the love of my life, Bessie.

After, Amillia finished shampooing my head over to Bessie and  exchanged phone numbers and the rest is history leading into our 6 months loving on each other.

I know that this relationship is blessed by God, because I prayed that my first date would be in church..and so it was.

After, talking on the phone for weeks at a time I asked Bessie to go with me to church,  Family of Faith Baptist Church 412 Piquetee, Harold Knox.

Bessie soon joined the church and we attend every Sunday.

God is so good in all his ways and I’m a witness to His supreme Glory.

Spiritual, God is still,and always in control and I understand that this world is not my home but I look unto enter in been with God.

I study the word daily by reading the Bible in a year by using the Daily Bread as my study guide.

I’ve been evolved in this study habit going on 5 years.

Well, enough about love and relationships, but, when I think  of home… I think of Piquette Square where I’ve been residing going 4 years.

In my opinion, Piquette Square, Veterans Housing for the Homeless Veterans, 6221 Brush, Detroit, MI.has been the best place that I ever lived, since Mom and Dad.

Because of the many resources and opportunities for better living, security, cleanness and the support of other like individual’s; Army, Navy, Marines, Cost Guard and the Air Forces..

We all live as one family living together, and at times, we may not get along, and, really.. what family don’t have time’s of difficulties.

it’s good remember that we are united by a single cause of the Red, White and Blue and the American way.

It’s good and such a wonderful feeling to look back from were come from and keep my eyes straight forward.

This year was great in completed my studies in Grammar 2 and Spanish 2 @ Wayne State University, Veterans Educational opportunities Program, 5425 Woodward Ave, Detroit, Mi and looking forwarding to fall quarter .

My family life is no different from any other family with ups and downs and those family members that distance there self from each other, but all we can do is pray.

I’m enjoying my retirement going into my second year and I thank God for that.

I have time now to concentrate on my internet business, call Life Leadership & Personal Development.

Last, year I began playing the piano and I’m still in love with the dear fact that I can play the piano.

I play by ear and also I can read music.

Every morning I practice as if there would be no tomorrow and each day I get stronger in my music and song writing.

Out of Detroit, and over 2 decades, comes an Army of talented Hair Stylist, Barbers, Braiders, Manicurists and Make up Artist all doing their part in this creative art.

Thanks to two native Detroiters, Hump the Grinder’s Hair Wars and Billy Cason’s Hair Design Magazine.

These two top promoters using their skills, resources, and time, giving theChance and Oportunity for stylist’s to show off their hard work through stage presentation of Hair Wars and a chance to be on the cover of Hair Design Magazine.

So lets sing… to the Glory of Hair, more Hair, more Hair, more Hair made down in the “D”…  Detroit the Hair Capital of the World.

The second half of the show, was no different then the first half of the show, but with more hair.

Along, with the style of enjoying an evening out, and  letting ones Hair down and it’s about to go down…Oh Boy!!… let’s have some fun.

By now, the ballroom was packed and heated with the excitement of Style  Fashion, Food, Drinks and Fun.

It seems as though everyone was having a good time.

 And why not, we”re @ a Hair Wars show and everything goes in Style/Entertainment @ a Hair Wars show.

Gegio, show Commentator has gotten into position off side of the stage, craze as he can be, and cutting as a Fox when it comes to entertainment.

This will be my third show with Gegio and he sure knows how to go…so let the show begin.

Gegio, did a Great job of entertaining the audience and had them eating out of his hand during…let’s see starting with his first calling..

London Calling was on top of their show game working together in salon corporation and team work and out front opening the second half.

London Calling, l demonstrating the unique way of the use Big Hair, Bright Hair and use of the array of colors…

London Calling was in it to win and @ Hair Wars everyone wins when you participate.

Cheron Jones – Altman, a Veteran  with style for good-looking Hair.

I have not seen Cheron in years, since back in the days of the Days In and Marriott hotel ballroom.

Ali Dushua, Hair Stylist,Salon owner was in grand glory with models featuring a seek preview of his up and coming stage play

 Scandalous Hair, written by Ali Dushua & Lena Claybon.

Ail models all look great as I took pictures with them and talked Hair and Hair shows.

Well, Well look who I see, the world renown Von Jour Reece Fashion Designer.

No one can do it like Von when he does that runway walk..

 Von’s model’s all dressed with the elegant look captivating a moment to  remember for this Hair Wars night and you might see anything walking with Hair on it.

Keith Matthews Beauty Village Hair Salon, in deep concentration of Fantasy while working with his last model’s back stage.

When I think of Fantasy, theme and expresses of a style, I think of Keith, friend of mine.

It has been said, that it takes a whole village to raise a child…but in today’s modern style society world, it take’s, one man only to create a Fantasy style look, that one man is Keith.

Ms. Thang Gloria, Boy!!… it was good to see Gloria and it stared with a big hug.

Gloria and I go back a long way.

The last time we each other was at last year Hair Wars Color show last year.

Blond as she can be with a short cut with curl escalating across her left eye.

I enjoyed watching her old school skit creative and original about the contrast between old school vs.  new school charm.

Last but not lease closing the show, Big Roy, during things in a Big way.

I used to work with Big Roy @ Billie Jo’s Grand River Detroit, Mi, La Tonya Person, Salon owner, R. I. P.

I caught up with Roy back stage while he was putting the final touches on his model.

2 Days 1 night till Hair Wars

It’s Friday everybody and the Sky’s are clear the sun is shinning bright, with temperature’s ranging in the mid 60’s for the rest of the week.

I’m up early as usual, reading my scripture’s, prayer and the Steve Harvey Morning show.

After, breakfast I’ll go to the supply store to get some Hair…Blonde will be the color for my Baby Boo, 27 piece’s will be the style, trapper side, layer cut with full body through the crown.

2 Days 1 night till Hair Wars and I need my hair trim.

My split end are rough and I need a cut.

I think I’ll stop by Mel’s Hair Salon, 6080 Woodward, Det, MI. and hope that one of the girls could trim me…and I could do the rest, being the I’m the Super Hair Fighter and I’m Super Soul Serious, when it comes to hair.

BAD Hair Day

I’m so excited, to be announcing the beginning of an 18-year-old plan to start my own Business.

Today, I’m fortunate to have gotten this far if not for your Plan and Purpose that you see in me.   .

The Salon Realty Show  and Blog Writing Review is focus around the fashion industry helping all Hair Stylist, Barber’s, Manicurists, Braiders, and Make up artists, that are interested in broadening  their coverage in advertising and marketing plan by way of the Internet.

The show will be visiting other Salons  coming together with other stylists discussing their views and comments about the Before Look and the amazing After look of Reality upon leaving the salon.

I’m De Derrick, BAD HAIR DAY, Hair Stylist/Barber/Blogger an a Hair Fighter, Healthy Images Salon, 6525 Second Ave, Detroit,Michigan…inside the William Clay Ford athlete Building.

I needed a Hair Do…like right now that’s suitable enough for a Super Hair Fighter on… his way to be Hosting my new developed Salon Reality Show.

I need a press n curl and a precision cut.

And, for that demand, theirs only one man I know that can precision cut and style my hair in vision that I see in my head.

The man is Bad, and quite a charter.

I’m talking about my friend Stylist/Entertainer Khalife’L Scissorhands.

Yes, Scissorhands, and he’s cutting with 5 shears… on the left and 5 on the right…oh may, oh may, you might say.. all dressed in black.this man could cut a hole in a rug.

Khalife’L, is best to be known as sharpest guy I know while on stage of a Hair Wars show always cutting up with stage action.

So, there it is in a nut shell.

Mind you now that been the  Hair Fighter…I could easily curl my own Hair as fast as you can blink an eye, but it just won’t do without that cut… it’s all that I needed.

I called for an appointment and Khalife’L scheduled my for 3:00 pm…3 sounds good to meI’ll be their. .

I was in the area, so I decided to get so lunch and make some last-minute calls for my BIG day tomorrow.

I kept my faith and belief in God, I’ve worked hard and never losing the site of my Dreams and Ambitions in Life…and just think tomorrow it will be happening.

Time now 3:00 pm, and, I’m now walking through the doors of the salon.

Their he was the Sicessorhands Man sharping up his scissors.

Hey Hair Fighter…how doing?

Just great Bro., I’ll be even better when you hook me up on my Hair Do.

Don’t worry, you’re in good hands with Scissorhands.

Let’s go to the shampoo bowl first and then I’ll cut you hair in The Styling Den.

 

Ok, let’s get busy as Khalife’L began to start my services by draping me and instructing me toput my neck  back into the shampoo bowl.

Theirs nothing like a nice relaxing shampoo, as I thought to myself almost sleep, as worked his magic fingers on my head.

Sit up Hair Fighter, as Khalife’L towel bolted my hair and began combing through it.

Khalife’L, asked me had I any breakage of your hair lately?

No, I’m in good shape.

Yes, that good as well, but, I still like recommend a good product called NATREXX natural source extract healing butter for HAIR, SCALP, FACE, HANDS, BODY, AND FEET.

Sounds good hit me with a little dab bro..

Khalife’L rinse the NATREXX out of my head and we proceed to the Styling Den.

Hey, Khalife’L, it’s been some time since I been back in the Den where all creative starts

I see you done some remodeling since the last I was here for that Hair Wars show in 2000. .

YES, God has been good and so has Bussiness…now let get on with your cut.

Go head Scissorhands but leave my length on the top, featuring me to the back and taper my sides.

I took a nap and hope I held my head right, while he curled my hair.pening my eyes I seen the host of my brand new Salon Reality Show…the Super Hair Fighter.

Now this is what I’m talking about a style worthy crossing a country mile.

By, the way Khalife’L do you have some BOUGEWA’ to spary on my side and neck line.

Sure, De, their you go…how dose that feel?

Great!! I love the refreshing feeling after a hair.

You did it once again Scissorhands, what’s my damage?

The Hair Do is on me Hair Fighter, just remember to spell my name correctly when you advertise my business on your show.

And by the way what’s the name of your show.

It’s…called  Salon Reality…and I’m going to make a real different in the hair industry on day.

Ok, Scissorhands you did your job so well you advertised your own Blog advertisement, as soon as I get home I’ll start my typing and market it.

If Runways could talk

 

  

 The whole world is a stage,1967 recording artists, Fantastic Four, sings… and everyone is playing a apart…  the stage is set, the curtain goes up, and  Image this…

 Yes, Image this…

If a Runway could talk, what would it say?

Would it talk of the support it gives, in carrying of the weight that aids the performer’s to reaches out into the audience,  where the steppin is High and the walk is  confidences in Style, Dancing and Fashion that can be viewed up close.

I would image the first words a Runway would say is …WHY is everyone always walking on me?

I said, to the Runway for this is your main and only purpose is to support the show and remember….the show must go on,  you were built, to carry the weight of the people doing their thing out on your Runway floor…so don’t start complaining now.

Ok let me see?… for this  kind of talk for a runway to talk is all new to me in this imaginary world of make-believe…so I’ll play along to see.

Thinking over the question again very carefully…if a runway could talk, hummm….What would I say??

  I think, I would start by letting the world know about Hump the Grinder’s Hair Wars, Hair Wars stage entertainment in hair is upgrading my runway static  and making sure my floors beans are secure, steady that will with stand the rockin when the beat starts to move, no time for slip ups or stage malfunctions….said the Runway in a strong woody voice.

The stage crew have taken the time to tighten up my support frame, that carry  the weight of the dancer.. while working out their rehearsed dance steps and routines steppin and bouncing to the beat.

.

 Finally, adding a new straps of lighting to my side will aid in helping to lighten things up and to raise the bar capturing all the runway action and most important the final runway spend action  and with the group photo shot looking like a Hair Design picture moment at the end of the runway.

I got my best suit on and I’m looking fly, shoes shined and felling fine, steppin’ out to check out the Hair Designs performing on the Runway Stage @ Hair Wars .

One last check at the mirror… on my way out, I’m straight now with no time for delay…as I called out to my baby,  “Baby, are you ready?”

My baby hollered back…don’t rush me now, you see, I’m a lady…she said, and well worth the wait, as she came steppin in with those stilettos on, tippin as through she was tipping a rose garden, looking lovely as could be and smelling like a lady, that’s my baby, and we’re on our way to the Hair Wars Show.

Leaving the house, arm in arm… we’re so excited about the colorful, short, long and ridiculous Designs that will be on the stage @ the Hair Wars Show tonight….and we’re on our way!

 

As we approached the ride, I open the door, she slid in to her seat ever so sexy, crossing her beautiful legs and she gave me a wink,… I smiled and thought to myself, “I’m a lucky man going out with this lady, my baby.”   

                                                        

 I walked around to the other side, started the ride, threw it into gear and burned rubber on our way to Hair Wars.

Putting the petal to the metal, not worrying about any fines and no time for texting, for the clock is ticking and we don’t want to be late for the 6:05 show starting time.

In the walk of life… while running the race, we will we all run into life’s difficulties from time to time, that may slow your work, rest IF you must, but please don’t Quit or get Sick.

Saturday Night, 02.22.15 was one of those…” worse day’s… of my Life”.

I was awaken Saturday night by an upset feeling of having to throw up… I went to the bathroom, trying to move my bowls with no help for relief.

As I stood to my feet, I started throwing up…I was sick, and my inside was turning over and over, having my equilibrium to be off-balance .

I was up, and down throughout the night, back and forth running  to the bath room and then back to my sick- bed to lay my body down.

My mind, body & soul was used up from fever and throwing up throughout the night.

My body was dehydrated now that’s day break the dawn of a new day…I was sick as a Dog on my sick-bed.

 

I called the Salon manager, Ms. Willingham and inform her to close out my appointment book and lay back down on my sick-bed.

As, the morning unfolded by doctoring on myself and drinking cold water…I was without an appetite and left with a bad taste in my mouth…being sick does that.

I had a few clients called, trying to get in for service of a cut or curl.

I informed them that I was on my sick-bed and they were all with compassion and understanding and wished me well.

It’s now 5:00 pm and I was feeling a little better, weak, yes so I opened a can of chicken soup after eating lying back down on my sick-bed.

Today, a new day, 03. 21. 15, a month later…Saturday and I’m back in position @ Healthy Images, feeling a lot better, as I sit and reflex of  suffering from the lack there of a  Healthy Image…and the sickness that can have your life miserable until you get better.

  On February 01, 2015, I made a drastic decision in the changing of my work place, in search of a Health Image for myself.

Change is good with all progress of Life, that adds to the positive betterment of oneself.

Image is everything, especially when you take the time to develop your self and understand that the image is a result from the positive change making that  first impression…it’s sort of the way the world see you for the first time.

  Two months ago, I cut my hair in looking for a change in my life.

The Show Must Go On

 

 Show Time…Show Time…don’t be late, The Show Will go on as Plan

The phrase “The Show Must Go On” is universal in its meaning, from entertainment world, to  life struggles, even in positive evaluation of ones life to keep things moving to never give up.

Hump the Grinder, Entrepreneur/ D J/Promoter and founder of his jaw dropping entertainment stage show called Hair Wars, is one person that I’m sure understands the meaning of “the Show Must go on”.

The birth of Hair Wars began in Detroit Night Clubs 1985 and now has been shown around the world via Hair Wars Around the World Internet Show live every Hump Day Wednesday.

I’m De Derrick/HairStylist/Barber/Blogger and a Hair Fighter, as well, a stage name that has followed me since my first stage performance on the Hair Wars stage at the Grand Quarter’s, 1996 and over the years I’ve averaged 3- 4 shows a year with Hair Wars.

I truly love the concept of this Hair Stage Entertainment, and I have gained a lot of experience on the “Run way” and back stage present, thanks to Hair Wars giving me and other Hair Stylist alike the opportunity to show off our Styles and to Network with other stylists and performance.

A large show production such a Hair Wars takes quite a bit of planning, organization and promoting to run a successful show.

Obstacles arises, and anything can happen and will happen, and things will go wrong during the day of the show, but the “show must go on”.

Hump, has gained a reputation for Hair Wars 6:05 show starting time and enforces it with no exception the to the rule and enforces it with late fine if the stylist is late during model call.

I feel this is a good concept and policy and only a true Show man would understand, by during their part in helping flow of the show running smoothly by been on time.

During my time in performing with Hair Wars, I was late one time, with my models and paid the cost, but as a true entertainer it thought me to handle my business and step up my game and be on time because “the show must go on’.

Last week, Hump called me again to appearance on his Around the World Internet Show, see  Hump Day Blog 7, but this time it was a little different.

Hump’s partner and camera person/Engineer Tina Carlita producer of My House, D J Digital house music that follow the Hair Wars Around the World Internet Show @ 8:00 pm, Tina was down with the flu and was not in the house, but at home with a fever.

                                

Hump called and asked me I would fill in and help with the controls, and fill in as a guest, discussing the importance and usage of Blogging in the industry which has become the internet newest form of word of mouth and  advertise .

Blogging is a way of branding your product, hair salon, hair style or business in the sight of others by Google word search…example blog hump day

Blogging is a matter of keeping log on daily activity; also used by ship captains on sea voyages…just as Captain Kirk’s logged his voyages on the US Enterprise…

During my last guest appearance on the show all controls were close at where Hump could control the volume and video tapes, but this time, the radio station, WHPR 88.1 fm was under reconstruction and the controls were in the hall way with glass wall that separated us…and Hump could not be in two places at once.

   

This is where I come in to help out with, after discussing the effects Blogging with Hump I went out into the hall way to the control board and started the tapes rolling.

It was a simple task but so very important to roll tapes and control the volume no Hump’s command with a simple nod jester and with the script well written out by Hump I was with him every step of the way by reading the script and pushing the correct tapes.

I really enjoyed my 1- hour thrill of  an engineer and I appreciated the way that Hump had his pre-written script laid out the me to follow…keep in mind that it’s all entertainment and The Show Must Go On.

I’m looking forward to The In My House Techno Show to Network and to wish Tina well come join the party because this show will go on…

7:00 pm…and my computer screen comes alive with house music and  photo gallery of past and present Hair Stylist performances that brought to my, mind of so many good and pleasant memories of my comrades in the industry of Hair Styling/entertainment.

Mo’ Jiggy opened with Color, Color, Color and mo color as the model’s grouped posed still on stage making a statement of Color’s.

 Each model hair coloring complementing their outfits.

The model’s hair were styled in Wet Set, Full Body Curls, Wraps, (short and long), cut-n-Curls and to add disaster to Style  a Hurricane French roll!! out of sight!!

 As, the show rolled  The Barber Crew, form M’ Jiggy with a stage act of their own that’s hard to be…rolling with color in their Hair it’s good to see that men have a place in color.

The Boy’s brought along a secret weapon that danced on his back, his stomach, his knees and end up Dancing on his head and Dance into my Heart…I got up out of my Lazy Boy and applied, Boy Andre, rolling with The Mo’ Jiggy Crew.

Next up…The Bonner Brothers and Proud Lady Hair Style winner, Kristina, The Glam Set Queen.

Kristina was standing off stage and had completed control of her Models as she sent the model’s down the runway one at a time.

First up, an African Hair Dance, have the complete style package for this Beautiful African Queen has she dances her way in to hearts of the audience

Next, was Finger Wave’s dry wave look that forms a 1930’s look that will never  go out of style, actually this is  one of my favorite styles…model dances to the sound of Louise Armstrong.

Say it Loud, I’m Black and proud while the Model walked to the beat of James Brown, wearing Peace sign tee-shirt, Bell Bottoms that represented the 60’s.

Now, here come the Glamour Set Queen, Kristina, my home town Glamour  Girl… walking down the run way to the music to walk by in recognition of her honors was living my Life like I’m Golden.

In house studio guest is music man Grant Gray….

The Hair Capital of Detroit…

Grant 1982 graduate of Munford High, Detroit, Mi.

Hump asked Grant what came first the music or the hair…replying the music but from time to time Grant would assist for his sister, Janet, after a while Hair Styling took president and begin his journey in the exciting profession world of Hair Styling… that would change his life forever.

Grant begin to study under Hair Styling greats, such as James and John Gooden, Tre, and Adams.

A Veteran of 27 years, Hump asked the question to Grant, having him to look back on how the Hair Industry has change.

Grant reply, Beauty Supply Stores selling to unlicensed operators.

Grant also stated that Hair Weaving that may or may not cause breakage or damage the Hair…he also, pointed out that he was no condoning Weave but its important every now and then to let your Hair breath with good conditioning adding moisture to the hair.

Annie

 

Annie…. The Tony Award Winning Production.

Broadway in Detroit @ the Fisher Bldg. 3011 W. Grand Boulevard, Detroit, MI.

Sunday morning, boy! I’m I tried.

I thank God for His Grace and Mercy, but I needed some rest, to do laundry and clean up my Living Area @ The Square.

I can’t take it any longer…so this is between me and my God, that, has already forgiven me because I didn’t make it to church…I’m just keeping it real.

My morning began  in Praise to our God while having breakfast with a friend and next door neighbor, Retired Staff Sergeant, Anthony Bradley as we do every morning in fellowship @ Piquette Square Veteran Housing for the Homeless Veteran 6221 Brush St. Detroit, Mi.

After breakfast we decided to go outside for some fresh air and we walked over to our Veteran Newly Dedicated Park.

Just after we took a Selfie the phone rang…It’s my barber Sun Shine, inviting me to Annie.

Sun Shine had some front row tickets that were given to her from one of the cast members of the play after she styled their hair.

Oh Boy! My first thought, was, it’s been some time since I been to the theater but, I have so much on my plate today with the cleaning and laundry and the fact that I didn’t make it church…but it’s been years and some decade’s since I had a chance to go to the theater.

Thinking things over quickly in my mind… I answered yes, and we schedule to meet @ The Fisher Bldg. @ 1:00 pm.

Perfect time, this would give me time to rest and clean up a little before curtain time.

The time now is 1:00 pm, I’ve just arrived at fisher Building and just as I glance over my shoulder I see Sun Shine approaching…perfect timing the door were just about to close and will not open until the second half.

The ushers escorts us to our seats Front Row, I made add… I felted very proud as I walked with my head high representing, alone with Sun Shine that was also looking very nice for the evening event.

Together we two of a kind lost in the crowd with front row seats.

The house lights began to dim as the logo Annie shined upon the curtains, for a split second my mind was in play for a movie, but this is the theater and act 1 was just beginning as the orchestra played from the pit under the stage with the top of the conductors head and shoulder’s was all I could see.

Annie is about a girl’s orphan age in New York during the winter of 1922, and Annie runs away to look for her parent that drop her on the door steps of the orphan. The play is set, during the New Deal time while President Roosevelt was in office.

There’s much more to talk about the Music Annie but I wouldn’t want to spoil the Happy Ending.

Annie is a real must see production, where the stage comes to Life and filled with Song, music and dance.

Hair Wars Internet Show

 

 

Wednesday night was the first time  viewing The Hair Wars Around the World Internet Show.

The Best of De Derrick, Love, Peace and Hair Grease…

I’m De Derrick Hair Stylist/Barber/blogger, Mel’s Salon 6080 Woodward Ave. Detroit, Michigan…I grew up on the Hair Wars stage and will be so ever grateful for the opportunity that Hair Wars offers any Stylist eager to perform.

Hair Wars stage production in Hair, Fashion and Entertainment.

It was my stepping stone into entertaining bring out the best in me and I love every part and excitement of whole  concept behind the War on Hair.

Lights, cameras, the Action of Keith @ The Beauty Village…

Hair Wars has given Stylist’s the Opportunity to show their Stuff on the runway, Advertise and Market our skills in the Styling of Hair.

Hump the Grinder, is moving forward and doing what every Great commander would do in any hair battle, straps on your wig, tighten up and ride the wave of style and keep it moving…”If you are going through hell, keep going.” – Winston Churchill

The Hair Wars has now stretched it’s forces across the ocean into Europeans Hair Designer…by introducing hair stylist’s from Denmark.

I’ve travel on tour with Hair Wars in the past,  and I traveled as far as California with the Hair Wars Tour crossing the stage performing as The Super Hair Fighter.

The 1 hour internet program was very interesting and held my attention with history and News of the Hair Industry…a sort of a mini Hair Show with clippings of pasted Hair Wars runway performance in the entertainment of hair.

Look @ Keith work that Hair…

I was excited to see Keith Matthews Owner/Hair Stylist @ The Beauty Village, 20442 Plymouth, Detroit, MI., 313.838.5178.

Sporting a black pin stripe suit and cool as a cucumber as he spoke…one thing I can say about this man, is that he’s a Sharpe dresser .

The Group still shot…runway action non stop…

Keith, did a wonderful job in reveling secrets of his fantasy wigs style tips…keep that hair moving Keith and I’ll see you at the next Hair Wars.

One of the hardest working man in the Hair Industry….

The show also highlighted hair styles from the past, present, and future.

History was made in the making of hair the day the Hair Wars Styling team…celebrating our home team Tiger’s winning the world Series with a hairy exposition in hair style and to hear about Hump’s ball park experience…such as the throwing out the first pitch…Hump stated, that he thought this honor was reserved for presidents…

but you are El Presidente of Hair Wars

Hump, you deserve every pitch that you have thrown for..

I’m very happy with my career choice and after 20 years I can still stand to make the same statement that I fell in Love with, when asked the question, do I Love what I do… and the answer is still YES! I Love Hair Styling.

During the years working in the salon I can truly say that I haven’t seen or heard everything only God has that power, but I’ve seen a lot going on in the Salon, that’s makes it easy for me to say “the Salon is the open door gateway in communication”.

Who’s who?… And on the world news, current events, point of views, comment’s and it goes on and on making the Salon a Melting Pot for Communication, Entertainment and Style.

One day, 12:00 pm, lunch time at Mel’s and a few of the operators were  in the break area including Theresa, that’s a Dudley product sale representative discussing the Salon product inventor.

The cooking channel was on television and the Dish Network was cooking up Succotash.

Theresa was humored by the word Succotash, and said it sounds funny.

By now, the Girls were all discussing their own personal recipe’s for the making of Succotash.

Did you know? That if you add the word suffering in front of Succotash you get a new meaning…we tested and Google Suffering Succotash and what we found was astonishing at the young age of 8, I was already program to cursing.

The next day, was our salon assistant Colby’s Birthday, and for the surprise dish…guess what?… of course Succotash!

Norma one of our Hair Stylist and famous Jamaican cook and person that knows her way around the kitchen as well as the Salon, Norma, was not to be fooled and she went straight to Martha Stewart for answers about the making of the dish Succotash.

This is what Martha had to say:  First created by Native Americans, this savory dish of corn, pepper, zucchini, and lima beans is still a favorite in the US South.

The name Succotash is derived from the Narragansett Indian word “Msickquttsh” meaning “boiled” whole ear of corn.

Succotash is hearty enough to be served as an entrée but also makes a wonderful accompaniment to fried chicken or grilled pork chops.

 The Hartford Memorial Baptist Church, working in their Minister of service, feeding 150 unit’s of men and women of Veteran’s of Piquette Square Permanent Housing for the Homeless Veteran, 6221 Brush St. Detroit, MI.

Yes!! Sir..Hartford Memorial is serving dinner @ 5:00 pm to a bunch of hungry men and women that has served our country proudly and now Hartford Memorial is proudly is serving the Piquette Square Dinner faithfully.

I’ve looking forward to this festive day ever since I noticed it on our calendar of events at the Square were I’m a tenet.

 Today is the day! and now it’s here…hallelujah and Praise.

No to cooking tonight a Hartford Dinner, what a delight.

Last year, was my first close encounter with the church members.

I had just move into the Square, and Hartford Memorial was serving dinner.

At the time I was new to the Square and thought this was a kind jester of service for the men and women that served our Country.

I’ve visited Hartford on an occasion…I believe it was a wedding but after this second feast I will call the church and make arrangements for Praise and Worship Services.

I’m so thankful that the church takes time out of their busy schedule to feed a Veteran…God Bless Hartford Memorial Baptist Church.

Before, I go any further with this Blog, or even think of sitting down to eat before I give thanks, for Grace and Mercy for this day and I’m  so ever Grateful for my profession as a Hair Stylist/Blogger.

9:00 am… A walk in, I’m glad I’m on duty.

It was one of my regulars, I worked him in and he appreciated the short notice call, I was here in scoring potion…even through my next appointment would be at 2:00 am I always start my day off at 9:00 am.

After the hair cut, I had a chance to go over my Blog notes and Internet Business, and styled my hair for this evening for  Dinner Tonight.

12:45 am…Lunch time 

 Coby, the salon shampoo girl, birthday was today…I ate enough but I was holding back and holding out for the Hartford Dinner.

2:00 pm… I like to introduce Gail

  

 Gail, a long time client, that enjoys the easy of a short cut and curl shampoo/condition and that’s a wrap.

4:30 pm…, Last and finial cut before dinner, meet Denzel Denzel is a bright and upcoming student, studying in Math and holds a grade point average that has given him recognition and awards…he also has some award-winning waves.

 

5:15 pm… Now that the work is done I’m now at the Square with the Dinner table set for The Vet’s.

My next door neighbor, Big Daddy Earl was all ready in potion, and was throwing down but pause for a moment before Grace.

The dinner table was set for a feast, and along with a desert  table that added a sweet touch for this Dinner…and to have so many Ladies that offer their time in the ministry of service, serving  Veteran’s at their home front.. God is smiling on you and I salute you.

I meet up with the men out side on the Patio Square.

I ask them about the Praise and Worship service and informed them of my feeling of Worship and they a sure me that I would enjoy the services.

Last word: Personally, I thank God and the Church in may own personal way.

I also signed, the thank you card form the Piquette Vet’s @ The Square to the church.

What’s in a Name

 

 

What’s in a name?

Only that the name of Jesus is where every knee shall bow and every tongue will confess.

This summer I’ve enjoyed wearing my Natural hair pulled to the front and flat on the top.

I like to think of a Style, such as the one you see as my New jack City look, and boy!, all the comments,  and onions, but no one help me in placing a name on this Style.

Some opinions I shall not repeat but I will repeat  what’s in a name?

What’s in a name?

Well. come see… what I finally  figured out on what to call a style such as this, and what  inspired me into calling it that.

Just like a good neighbor, I like for you to meet Retired Staff Sergeant Anthony Bradley, friend, brother and next door neighbor, Piquette Square, Veteran’s Permanent Housing for the Homeless Veteran’s 6221 Brush St. Detroit, Mi.

Hi, I’m De Derrick Hair Stylist/Barber/Blogger, Mel’s Salon & Associates, 6080 Woodward Ave., Detroit, MI.

Every morning before sun rise Ant and I mediate on God’s word in Praise while we talk real talk over bacon and eggs as we are Grateful for Grace and Mercy and another Day.

Anthony, is a charter and so am I, we both share the in the common interest of the Love of Jesus encouraging one other through brotherly Love.         .

One morning, after breakfast I was ironing a shirt getting ready for work.

Anthony was at the table talking and expressing the love and ones of God.

  He spoke of how God’s  Divine Plan is revealed through his children that listen to His calling. 

He places us in Life situations for His Divine Purpose and through the blood of Jesus covers our sins from the Rooter to the Tooter…making the jester with his hand at the top of his head pulling forward down…with the last words “from my head to my feet” cover by the blood of Jesus. 

That’s when it Hit me in calling my Style The Rooter to the Tooter.

Personal it’s a knowing through faith  that I’m saved and cover by the blood Jesus and I thank God for the Style of Glory with my hair Style.

I’m truly bless to have hair at 62.

Pulling my hair forward in such a Style keeps me reminded of the direction of Life that ahead on me in my writing

Hi I’m De Derrick, Hair Stylist/Barber/Blogger @ Mel’s Salon & Associate’s 6080 Woodward Ave., Detroit, MI.

As, a Stylist of 20 years, believe me when I say that “Cosmetologist skills and professional care are put to the test everyday by a new clients, or walk-in or maybe that you’re 10 year, same style Mr. or Ms. decides to change their hair style.

A change of Style is great and I’m all for change, but it places the Stylist mind-set, to change their Style format for Mr. or Ms. client

Now creatively,  it’s time to work and in a manner of speaking…because another style plan is call for.

In all cases, you win some and lose some…but the main adjective goals are to please the client.

Situation happen to me in the Salon.. it was good, but from time to time to shake up our Professionalism and Profile of good service we .

I would like for you to meet Tina Suber, my cousin on my father side of the family.

I was so happy when Tina called for an appointment…gash! I was fresh out of Cosmetology School when I gave her a Cold Wave (jerrie Curl).

Well, as time goes…15 years have passed since I seen Tina, and I believe it was at our cousin Lucille funeral.

It’s Satuarday morning, and I get a call from Tina… call me when you get in the parking lot, while I work on my client in the chair that was having a wrap.

As I was wrapping the client my thoughts were on seeing my Cousin…placing my client under the dryer the phone rings…OK Tina I’m on my way.

Tina was a sight for joy of seeing her..it’s like the feeling you might have experience after losing all faith in God, and then God shows up..It’s an indescribable but I sure you can relate.

After we hugged and looked at each other, I can see The Smith DNA in the face of Tina my cousin on my Daddy side of the family.

Once, inside the salon Tina informs me that she has conditioner on her hair and needed to be rinsed

Perfect, I said to myself, because I was just finishing a cut for the Preacher Man…Minister Doo right.

I draped Tina and lay her back into the shampoo bowl, while rising Tina, I thought about the Smith’s family hair DNA. Tina mother is my father’s brother…and I now see, and feel the texture of Tina hair, but with waves and softness is a little like mine own.

It was so nice talking with Tina, while I style her hair…it was good to see you once again, you have me think of my Daddy when I rinse your hair.

The DNA In Me

Let the show began..

My Daddy, the house we was raise in was purchase under the G. I. Bill.

My Daddy, Robert L. Smith, Bob, Smitty, Deacon, US Army Veteran.

I still missing you, but Cherish the good and the bad time’s together…you’re all I know in a Fatherhood hood figure, and your living proves the part where I color you Daddy, a Spiritual love from my heart, from a son to his Daddy.

To my Day…it’s very sad of you departed so soon, from this thing call Life…God in all His Splendor and purpose, had plan to call you home.

My Daddy…I miss ya!

Leaving behind to mourn, a wife, Norma, 5 children’s…Gary, Robert, Derrick, Gayle and Linda…family and friends.

I’m so very Grateful to have spent 16 years with my Daddy before his sudden death, where some poor kid may have not have spent 1 day with a Father….I had 16 years with my Daddy.

It was a sudden death of a heart attack, on the Job, at Ford Motor Company, June 5, 1966, a target day for The Smith Family, changing the course the family, while my mother did a great job in raising the family with a forever broken heart for her loving Bob.

The vision I see when I think of a Father’s role in a family..I see my Daddy portrait hanging in the halls of Integrity, Morals, Character and Love for The Church and his Family…and I’m just about in position of filling my Daddy’s shoes.

Father’s Day the mouth of June, another year has passed…I loved for my Daddy and I’ll never forget my childhood experiences with him… riding on the back with him on his motorcycle where I had my arms around a giant holding on tight.

To me by talking about my Daddy is one sure way of keeping the memories of my Daddy very much alive in my heart.

DNA, is the all source family background check of every family tie, which can be trace down the blood line and the blood tells everything about your body.

And, no less than in my own family…I have hair Texture just like my Daddy and eyes…

As a young boy I would watch him using Murray’s and with bushing to achieve his look…It would hold all day, ever so nicely.

Before there ever was a Detroit there was Hair..

Well, well, well…finally the week-end is upon us…1 more day before  Show time of The Greatness Show on Earth…The Moe Hair Show Review.

The most popular show around and it’s going down in The Hair Capital of The World…Detroit, known for styles, Cuts, Color and Curls Nail Art and Braids.

The Hair Stylist/Barbers, Manicurist,  Makeup  Artist, Braiders, along with their Stage Presentation, and the Education during and after the show styling tecqueces while the Videos rows on  shared into The Social Square that will be viewed in every port from Singapore to see ya ma ma in France where they dance.. The can can dance.

This is The Moe Hair Show annual visit to The Motor City and I not taking any chances on missing this Show Production in Hair & Fashion.

I feel just like a kid at Christmas Eve…you know that feeling of that I can’t sleep…wishing for the sun to open the blinds into another day…or for the grownups, sleeping steel, or straight up in a chair all night… affair of dozing off, in fear of messing up the Style and you wouldn’t want to do that would you?

This is a before look before I decide on the style for The Show…

Mel’s Salon & Associate’s 6080 Woodward Ave., Detroit, Mi.. Is where I work to do my share in the Cutting & Styling of hair.

The time is 8:30 am

I’m sitting here after finisning a cut n curl, my next appointment is @ 11:00, Great this gives me time to go over my Check List before show time…checking it twice making sure that everything runs smooth.

You see…I ‘m not in the show, although I’ve travel on their tour and done all that before.

I even made a name for myself as a” Hair Fighter”,  my days  of old has not taken me from the stage lights yes, I miss it of course!  but…now I write, on the Internet Blogging each show that I can get to…but personally it’s hard to stay away from all the Hair War happening on the stage action, bright lights and a crowd, but I now have…I think, the best seat in the house.

I write the show review blog and of course everyone knows that the pen is mightier than any sword in any act…see my last Hair Show Story or the story of a man that always wanted to go to a Hair Show.

And for the reader of this Blog let it be known Invite me to a Show I’ll go home type it, publish it and now, Good or Bad the show revenue is now gone viral…meet The Worlds new form of advertising…The Blog.

Sitting @ my station, take the time to rest my mind…

Showtime is slowing creeping up but I want to allow it to get me in a rut… I’m a professional and I like to do things right when it comes to show Biz…now let me see…now where is that Check List?…everyone as a check list…now where’s mine? … talking to myself as I checked the last pocket inside my suite coat…here it is…Let’s see, oh I forgot to give my check list a name…I’ve in the habit of naming all of my check list dating back to 1993….I think I’ll call this list Show Call.

Now where was I…oh yeah, shoes shines, shirt press, socks, tie set, Tuxedo…omg!!

My Tuxedo paints are @ the tailor, My man, Tailor Man, The Man with a Stitch is hemming my pants…Oh no!

How could have I had forgotten my pants…now let me see where did I put Ken’s number?

The phone rang…It’s Michelle… hey De , I was think about the show wanted to come by to talk about a style for the hair show…I told her sure , come on in

…don’t let the eyes fool ya…she will be ready on The After Blog and she will awake with a Smile of a Style…Smiling on The After Look.

I found The Tailor Man number and called him; he said he’ll be there until 6:00 am…ok Ken…and hung up.

Hi De, with the close eye look of The Before Look…never mind what you see now except for those Lovely Eyes that will catch up with on The After Look Blog.

Michelle is so excited about being my model, she told me about her past modeling experience with greats like Karl Reed, John Gooden and Nathanael I can see her blood racing as she was thinking about the upcoming show, or maybe the past shows that she model for , either way the Girl was Happy.

After going through some Hair Design Books and Prestige’s Magazine she stop and found a please short style, long gated on one side and layer throughout the top…sides molded down because we won’t need a curl only the smooth look of a Flat Iron.

Michelle was satisfied with her soon to be look, we will call it the After look.

I ask Michelle if she would drop me off at Woodward and the Blvd…so I can get my pants from the Tailor Man.

I’ll do better than that, I got to run in the Dollar Store that’s across the street, and we’ll meet up and I’ll bring you back to the Salon… OK…sounds like a plan to me…let’s go…I told the receptionist that I’ll be back as we left out the door.

Ok…Michelle, as we part…I’ll be over at Tailor Shop…Hi Ken, walking in, hey De…The Show is Sunday are you ready…as ready as I will ever be as soon as you give me those paints so I can cross them off of my Check List…I finish my transaction with Ken The Tailor Man and sealed it with a handshake, thanks and come again.

When I came out of the shop Michelle is setting with the motor running calling let’s go. The ride to the shop was short but had time to finish my check List.

Ma ma Forgive me

 

Mama Forgive Me, as Our Heavenly Father…forgives us, His people…

Say Hello to my Ma ma….Norma Irena Smith, for the last 20 years I’ve styled her hair beginning with Beauty School…no charge!, to the Salon no charge!…. to the Kitchen, and now,  today were at The Nursing Home Tender Care, Taylor, Mi. and things are no different…no charge!

 

 

 

…and when I really think about all that Norma has done for me as well as the family by; keeping us together after the sudden death of her husband Robert Smith, 06. 05.67, both were in their prim of their lives, sadly for Ma ma to carry on with 5 children to raise, I owe a lot to my mother, living life on her prays, until I got to the place were I started praying for her, myself and  the World.

at this time in her life she’s so very proud of me…I know because over the years she recognize the change in me developing my lifestyle as a Professional Cosmetologist … I like for you to meet my brothers and sisters; Gary, Robert  Jr. (we have always  called him Bro)., Gayle and Linda of Atlanta, Ga.

Look at her…Isn’t she Lovely, 2 piece Light Olive Green, white turban setting her outfit off with a real cool look for the coming of Spring…give her a like, or a cool share unto the social square.

Her outfit complement of her daughter Linda…Hi Lenny, nice choice on the 2 peice…

After greeting Ma ma and boy she was happy to see a visitor, I see that Kathy, Ma ma’s roommate had a visitor.

Ma ma mention to me that Robert had visited her on Saturday, and laid this pretty shade of green  out, stating to her “that somebody might come by”…well  you were Right! Bro., because that somebody was June O’Dell and myself coming by as usually after church to visit and curl her hair.

June is a very close church member Loyal Temple Baptist Church 3482 Chene, Detroit, MI., that has been close to her and knowing of my Ma ma outgoing personality I can see why June has taken a liking to my Mother.

God is a Good and Awesome God, placing people in one’s life to Love, Encourage and to Lift the Name of Jesus… God, knew long before time that Norma would need a friend such as June.

June would come see about Norma where ever she was to see if she needed anything, and if she did June would put it on her list, and she shall have it the next visit…God, also knew that Norma would need her hair styled long before I even thought about Hair Styling, then He chose me.

At the present I’m without transportation, but, that’s ok…I’m working on it all things in time, But!, for the last 4 years June as always share the ride with me Gladly and I thank her every trip.

After, talking with Ma Ma, I picked up my bag an instantly, I felt like I forgot something…true enough, it was the Pressing Comb and from the looks of Norma’s hair she might need two, but, My Kingdom for just one…all jokes aside I had a situation in front of me…I forgot the Pressing Comb!, and just as shocking as it was to me Ma Ma was a little disappointment, and who wouldn’t,  but thank God I am only human and we forget at time like these.

Ma ma took the situation with a smile, but when she told me to dial Gayle number on her phone…I should have realize this call was totally out of order…in 3 years of visiting, she never ask to make any calls, but today this call was to inform Gayle of what happen… and to everyone that enter the room it  was the cute’s Thing! but she had to tell somebody.

By time the visit was over we all laugh and as you can see she’s Smile and I know in my heart that she has Forgiven me, and all is well until next week…God’s will be done!

I was a little sad to leave Ma ma the same way with her hair undone but you must have the proper tool to do the right job: Next week I’ll check, and double-check…

Hair Wars is an annual touring event which has become one of the biggest African-American hair shows in the United States. It is a showcase for artists  to showcase their   talents and stage performance.

Hair Wars started in the Detroit nightclubs in 1985 as an informal stage show for local hair stylists to show off their hair creations.

Disc jockey David Humphries, a.k.a. “Hump The Grinder.”

Hair Wars is where the birth place of “The Hair Fighter” De Derrick, I was given the opportunity to perform  on stage during the 1993 HAIR WARS  GRAMMYS @ The Grand Quarters, W. Grand Blvd., Detroit, MI. and that’s were it all started, after that it was Show after Show after Show!!!

and wouldn’t you know it a hair cut a walk-in showed up; and he was White…makes no different a cut is a cut…I’ll cut a dog if you put a put a muzzle on it.  Because of the years experience in Barber/Stylist it was no snap.

The Last Cut of

The only reason for cutting hair  is to add to one’s comfort and to keep up one’s appearance. The old-fashioned notion that frequent cutting of the hair and even shaving the scalp would augment its thickness has long since been completely discarded. The source of this fallacy must have been the gardener’s success at “cutting back” rose bushes and other shrubs to make them grow more successfully.

The hair of the head which the naked eye discerns is fully developed, so no shaving or cutting can possibly affect the rate of its growth or influence its thickness. Painstaking research independents proved the scientific fact that no part of the hair shaft above the surface of the scalp is capable of independent growth…All growth develop within the hair sheath…Take for example may last cut of a long day…Say hello to Reggie Jr… is a young man that takes it bladed.

Reggie is 12 years  plays the piano, and during well in school with the help of family mentors; and his Grandmother Vacie is my co-worker…and  we work side by side @ Mel’s Salon & Associate…so you know shes watching. The bladed Fade is a choice of style…and truly will  not augment its  thickness no way…frankly a Bladed Fade happen to be one of my specialties…it looks sharp and for the last Cut  of Today it saves time because there will be no lining…the lining is in the front..so my friends check Reggie Jr. and give us a “like”
