I’m getting for Hump the Grinder’s April 28th Hair show @ the Ford Community of Performing Arts Center, 15801 Michigan Ave., Dearborn, Michigan.

6:05 pm is the starting time.

After, 20 years this will be my first Hair Wars show wearing a Barber Cut Style, which i don’t mind,… giving me chance to switch up in style.

I’m blessed to able to grow a full head of Hair,…taking after my Daddy, R.I.P., but for this Musical show I’m going to keep it low with some Musical Notes all around my head to represent Design Harmony for this special Musical show.

I think, i found someone to give me what i want in a Design Cut, after letting my fingers do the waking though Billy Cason’s, Hair Design Magazine and choose 3 among the many in the book i narrowed it down to one.

His name is ROD, the Barber @ the Main Attraction 17700 Fenkell, I made an appointment with him for next week, he said he can cut any design and by Faith,…I believe him.

WHAT’S SAID IN VEGAS….
….by now, Hump the Grinder and all the Hair Stylists and every one else connect with the Hair Wars Reunion get away, should be checking in and getting settled in.

Settling in for 3 fun warm exciting days in Las Vegas, all in the name of HAIR.

Parting is such sweet sorrow, I’ll be over it by tomorrow the Hair Fighter had to stay @ home, but the next Hair Wars will be here @ home and I’ll be there.

The road ahead is long and winding and I put my time in and riding on Faith and Belief that success is just around the next bend and it will happen again.

From Hair man to Piano man, transforming the same Love of Hair styling, now I write, play and sing of the expressions of Hair styling.

4 Wheels and a Keyboard, is my passion musical vehicle that will take me there.

It was 1985, a very good year and the beat was alive and hot…down in the D,… up in the Night Clubs, in Detroit.

I was doing the Bump and the Stomp on the dance floor , and suddenly, the house lights came on, and the DJ, shouting it’s a Hair Show about to begin!!!

Move the tables and the chairs, it’s a Hair Show party about to happen up here in this Night Club tonight, down in the D.

It was a Hump the Grinders “Party Gimmick” to keep the party going on…up in the Club’s, down in the D.
It was the beginning of Hair Wars and more.

What, turned out as a 4 week Hair Promotion is still going on, around the World today.

IT’S JUST A MATTER OF TIME

Creativity is as wide as all out doors, as far as your eyes can see, Creativity, takes one’s Eye vision were eyes can not see.
Eyes that see further into the depth of Imagination, when one sit, and be still long enough to Image things that could be.
Originally, is yours and you own it, your name is on it, you are one of a kind, you created it and you cherish it with all your Heart.
This is how I feel about my 4wheels and a Keyboard, musical expression in Hair Entertainment that I Created last year.
I realize it takes time for a business to grow and time for Change to come about, it just a matter of time, but, 4Wheels is coming this year..

I’m writing a song with the idea of Fantasy on my mind and Hair Designs that are Fantasy.

It’s, a story about a Hair show on Fantasy Square Island, smack dab in the middle of the Bermuda Triangle.
The Bermuda Triangle, were men and ships have been lost sea and still is a Mystery.
We, got Ali Du’Shua with his Fantasy barbeque Grill style, and Keith from the Beauty Village with something Sweet, with his Tossie Roll and a few more Stylists just waiting to join the fun.
Once, I contact all of the Stylists that are invited to this Fancy affair gathering, all on Fantasy Square Island I can continue on with the making of this story.

She strutted over to the reception desk and said, my name is Sheryl Girly, and I like to keep my Hair tight and curly.
I’m going to the Hair Wars and l have an appointment with the Hair Fighter…Hair Fighter!, Hair Fighter!..your wanted up front.
Sherly Girly, hey girl!!…right on time…let’s go to the Shampoo bowl and get this style started.
Curl it real tight and let the curls fall through the week…remember my name, Sheryl Girly, I like to keep my Hair tight and curly.
There’s no need to fear to fear, the Hair Fighter is here.

I was in a Salon the other day, no need to mention no names.
For, you see, their ALL the same to me, beauty of enhancement…the Salon.
The Salon was busy and everyone was working Styling hair giving the Salon flair.
The phone was ring, off the hook and walk ins were still coming in.
As, I looked around the Salon ALL I could say to myself is…”I like how they were Styling that Hair, they were cutting it right and coloring it bright”.
Wraps, Cut and Curl, Weaves and Poni tales…
I like what they were doing to that Hair,

Remarkable YES!, but fiction indeed, SORRY, Charlie is an Octopus living on Fantasy Island, a place where imagination runs wild.

I Still Have a Dream

I still have a Dream.

 Soon, real soon, this Dream will become a reality.

It’s an imaginary Dream, but ,yet so real to me, and real in the hearts, minds and souls in Hundreds of Hair Stylist’s living in Detroit.

It’s a Dream, that Detroit will be one day known for more, than a Motor City, or even a Motown Sound.

This Dream is deeply rooted in the Cosmetology Student Handbook.

A Dream where every French roll will be rolled high, and every hair and strand  neatly in place.

The kind of Dream where there will be no more long salon visits, and no waiting.

I still have a Dream where perms will burn no more.

I have a Dream where every Stylist’s will have the opportunity to be featured on the cover of Billy Cason, Hair Design Magazine.

This is our hope, and this is the faith with which we will return to the salon with.

With this faith we will be able to transform our creative energy’s to be able to accommodate our  customer’s in a professional like manner.

With this faith we will be able to work together, pray together, go to hair shows together, and stand up for styles to together, in knowing that one day our styles will shine.

This will be the day when all Hair Stylist, Barber, Braiders, Manicurist’s and Make up Artist in Detroit will come together to sing to the Crowning of the Hair Capital of the World.

I’m De Derrick, and the Melody I play today is a Happy Birthday Blog to my sister..Gayle

Happy Birthday my sweet Georgia Peach enjoy the reading and Bessie, says happy birthday .

Gayle was born and raised in Detroit Michigan on June 5, 1956.

She started piano lessons at the age of 6 years of age.

By, the of 8 years of age Gayle, was playing by ear and the rest is history.

Gayle has three brothers, Gary, Robert, Derrick and 1 sister, Linda. 

Gayle, comes from a musical family which generated from our mom.

My mother, Norma has been singing for years, and ever since I could remember as a young boy going to church.

My mother was the choir director, Loyal Temple Baptist Church, Chene & Scott, Detroit, MI.

 Gayle, practiced and played the piano every day and thank her parents so much for encouragement and their sacrifice in time with arranging for her to take lessons because it has become such a powerful force in her life.

Gayle remembers her Dad saying to her before he died, 06.05.67.

“If I buy this piano, there is no stopping”, she believed in her dad so much she told him she will never quit.

Gayle has 2 wonderful boys, Darius and Demetrius and they are the world to her.

Gayle has played and sang in many churches, weddings, funerals and special occasions.

 God, gave Gayle the vision October, 2008 for Piano Keys for Christ Piano Lessons and Gayle thank God everyday for the inspiration in stating this business venture…Piano Keys for Christ which has a growing client’s  of all ages.

Again, Gayle gives Thanks to God for 50 years of experience and everything that He has already done for her she is extremely excited for what He’s about to do…Thank you God for Piano Keys for Christ and her Students  playing there hearts out.

Hair or no Hair?…that’s a good question? .. and the answer lies within the Hair  the feel of Hair and the look of Hair.

I created my stage name “Hair Fighter” while serving in stage presentations in the Battle’s of Hair Wars over the last twenty years.

Down, through the years, show after show, near or far… I was on stage entertaining doing my show part or a guest enjoying every minute of the style ride in Hair that has swepted the country and across the sea… by way of Hair Wars.

Hair Wars is now traveling around the world and closing the gap in repetition in starting the show on time @ 6:05 pm.

I can’t remember a show where the 6:05 show time was not honor in keep with the old saying “the show must go on”.

Come with me… it’s almost show time, and watch through the eyes of a Hair Fighter, commentating  back stage and close up front @ V. I. P seating catching the spirit, bright stage lights and the feel of excitement and thrills as each performers unfolds their routines and theme all while having fun down the Run way.

I arrived early, checking in for my Media pass with security.

As, I waited patiently  until security clear my back stage pass.

From this angle I could see the entire back stage area.

The adrenal was  flowing with people working, as beaver’s would do in preparing for their Dam.

I felted the beats, beating hearts… and the tunnel vision of Show time.

I entered in  the room feeling the spirit of it all coming to life.

Act 1 model call and stylist’s claim their area by table’s marked with their name’s unpacking their equipment getting ready for a star stunning night of hair styling.

I’ve already made my quick change into my “Hair Fighter” charter, while the room continues to flow with hair stylists and models arriving for model call.

One thing I notice that Hump enforces his model call check in and if you’re late, pay a fine and may be you will be worked into the show…I know, from first hand experience and I paid from my mistakes for my lateness, realizing that the show Must Go On!

Back Stage area… and everyone is playing their part in handling the hype of the last-minute show preparations; make up, last curl touch up dance steps, one more time again…rehearse to the last-minute make up touch up.

I observed and watched the room, focusing my eye’s and attention, as an Eagle would be setting high above all and see all.

I’m close at hand, and down up front with the excitement of show time trying hard not to miss anything.

I thought, for a mount of the old days,  when I would have 4 – 6 models to get ready and all the Hustle and Bustle of show and the pressure of show time.

Nothing New Under the Sun…just that the faces have change.

Dorsey School of Beauty was well supported…coming out of their hair corner with a double dose of high energy of style excitement, Roseville, Mi. & Lansing, Mi., they brought color braids which added a new look to the show with the eye of the tiger in each stylist eye.

Ruby Jean Davis, Nevada, NM, lovely as ever, as she shows off her very stunning colorful  gown accentuating her colorful braid style.

Ruby has been styling hair since 1963 and her tip for today’s hair show is “learn all you can in the salon.”

Yolanda “Yo – Yo” Carroll was at attendances for her model call…I didn’t get to speak to her but I caught up with one of her models now wearing the Blonde look, longitude on one side.

Flawless Smith, which I had a chance to meet for the first time, sharing the family name of Smith.

Flawless Smith was deep in creative thought as he was working but took time to laid a quote on me, “I will have 8 models.

It was good to see Alonzo Palmer working his fantasy creation out…

I enjoyed watching Alonzo makeup artist, licensed cosmetologist enhancing the beauty of the models completing the style by makeup…the last stop, and Joelle Vanity Rock’s.

Tony Hair Weave Killa stop for a group shot, looking hot with color and style.

It’s intermission, everyone will be stopping by the Hair Wars booth and pick up some DVD’s and support tonight’s sponsors.

I’m Back!!!… and getting ready for the Hair Wars show, but first things first…

 

I’s been brought to my attention by close friends and relative’s, asking the questions….where is De Derrick??

Well, let me take this time to help every one out…I’m OK and God is good.

For the last 4 months, I’ve been happy and lucky in Love…her name is Bessie, my baby boo, heaven-sent from God above.

We met last year, while having my hair styled @ 2nd Look Hair Salon

Special shout out!!… to Amillia, Stylist/Salon Owner…for for hooking us up with the introduction.

Bessie and I have talked on the phone at all hours of the day and after hours through the night.

During, this time we discovered that we have shared about the same prayer request to God, for a person that’s nice and to talk with.

Bessie, had lost her mate of 30 years, and have cried a many of nights for help and God directed her path.

For the last 10 years I’ve been by myself been a little afraid of the hurt in relationships like most folks, then came Bessie that adds joy to my life.

Our first date was in church just as I prayed for, Family of Faith, 421 Piquette, Pastor, Harold Knox, where I’m a member, and so is Bessie, after meeting me, she joining last month with Christian experience.

Yesterday, Tuesday, I work up to the beginning of my end, that started with  the Bad Hair Days Blues…that ended with good news…

Sure, everyone as the blues with their hair at times, however, today is my day.

Sick as the flu, I’m telling you, but, I know what to do…I’m going to call over to the 2nd Look Hair Salon and take advantage of their Tuesday Senior citizen press and curl $25 Special.

The Hair Capital Dream

 

 Bedtime, the day has grown old, and the time has come for no man to work.

I have done all that I can do for this day…”save some work for  tomorrow”…I always say.

I have just finished oiling and brushing my hair and tied it down.

Now, I laid me down to sleep, I dreams of a vocabulary of words to express the Best of the Best of Hair Stylist’s/Entertainment  that Detroit has to offer.

I dream In appreciation to Hump the Grinder’s Hair Wars and Billy Cason’s Hair design Magazine for the exposure to the world the Hair styles that Detroit is made of.

I dream of a beautiful musical scaled melody of notes swaying from side to side… The hair Capital of the World made in the D…The Hair Capital of the World la,la,la,la…the Capital the Capital…

Yes!!,  it’s true, and over the course of time Detroit has raised an army of talented hair stylist’s, serving our clients and each other in Love, Peace and Hair Grease…again, thanks to Hair Wars and Hair Design Magazine for providing the platform that took us their.

I Dream of a strong rhythm beat to express and support the melody of the song that will be written by the power’s and creative that is invested in a Hair Fighter, with writing and musical abilities to see the job through.

 

 

As, I awake from this dream, I quickly gathered my thoughts, grab a pen and paper, and continued on with turning a dream into the reality to live out  the expression… The Hair capital of the World is made in the D.

The Fitness Center is located in side of the William Clay Ford athletic Building.

I’ve started working @ Healthy Images February 01, 2015 and so far as been one of the best decision I have ever made in my entire career as a Hair Stylist.

Because of the Networking power of an athletic club going to exercise 7 days a week all in the same building as our salon is awesome.

And, it gets better than that, Healthy Images is the first door on your left, upon entering the building from the parking lot @ Milwaukee.

Today, I received my share of walk ins and new clients nearly every day.

Today is my Birthday, the celebration of new life growing inside me.

I’m running the Good life in Christ today and I’m not ashamed of the name of Jesus. 

I won’t back down now, and I say His name again, Jesus.

 for I have come to far by Faith in His word to turn back now. 

I’m now 63 years of age, and I’m at the mil stone of my Life.

I find myself very happy to be able to share in my spiritually growth in Christ.

Another year Older and Wiser and Happier in the Word and with my self.

Everyone has one day out of a year giving opportunity to look back and see for where you have come from and focus on straight ahead on their Birthday.

Today, is my day…Happy Birthday!!!

God has been real good to me in all matter of my Life.

I’m living the good time in Christ, but, I’m short because, 99 and a half of His obedience is not enough God wants it all, so I pray to my Holy Spirit in helping me in my unbelief and my short coming.

God, demands all due respect and honor as Our Father God the maker and Creator of Universe.

I read my Bible,  pray every day….it’s still not enough.

I attend Sunday School, Praise and Glorify his name during worship services.

I attentively listen and take notes of the preaching of His word.

I leave my Tithes and Offerings.

 I depart from the Services and  I try real hard to love everyone…God first Commandment.

And yet, there is so much more work to be done.

My Birthday, last year same time, same place, Piquette Square, Veteran Housing aiding the Homeless Vets where I’m Bless a resident there.

I love the accommodations and resources that are available @ Piquette Square. Thanks to Piquette, that has in helped  me in the better of my Personal Development.

I like to think of Piquette Square, as the best place I ever lived, since Mom and Dad and hot apple pie.

I’m loving ever monment…going on now 3 years.

 One day, quietly and softly, the spirit of decrement came me last year this time while I was typing.

I stopped typing and realize that my typing skills were no different from piano skills.

I studied on the matter for a while very seriously and thought to myself… I’m going to play the piano.

Not, to mention, that there’s  a piano in our TV room  @ the Square and I walk by it nearly everyday without even touching it.

It all made sense now.

50 years ago when I tried to play @ the age of 8 and it didn’t, by the age of 9 I let it go with no regrets, while running outside to go and play.

I was not ready at that time.

In knowing what I know now, I truly believe God prepared me for the ride down those 88 keys.

But still, there was something lingered in the back of my mind that says something about that piano.

Firstly, of all, anyone that truly knows me, knows that I’ve always had the rhythm for dancing.

I believe that my dancing does give me the edge in making up a beat or staying with the beat in which I’m playing.

Secondly, I have 25 years in the field of Cosmetology and over the years have developed me with strong dexterity in my hands and fingers.

Thirdly, I can braid hair and I acquire typing skills of 80 wpm with 3 or 4 errors.

That’s when it finally hit me!!

Why shouldn’t I be able to play that piano in our  the TV room?

So, not coming up with a good answer,  I started playing the piano.

I purchased my first keyboard so I didn’t have to go down to the TV room any more.

 The guys would sometimes ridicule me by rude loud talking and turning up the volume on the TV.

I was proud of my  66 key Casio Keyboard that purchased @ the pawn for $80.00.

I purchased the Alfred’s basic adult Piano Course and with my extremely high  desire to play I started practiced everyday and in-between days.

As a beginner, I learned my lesson and I learned it well.

God Bless me with a new 77 key Yamaha Keyboard piano.

 I purchased it from my internet mall, triple Clicks

This Yamaha was a $300 keyboard, but since hold an executive position with a company called SFI and having enough VP points because of down line that are in the business, the piano was free.

I only paid the shipping cost which was $30.00..how cool was that!!

With an extra 10 more keys to work with I got busy practicing .

I stepped out of the music book and began writing and playing my own melody and adding my own beats.

It’s truly amazing what God has done for me in my life by Plan and Purpose.

I now process the complete Praise package when Praising and Dancing lifting up His name in the services.

I’ll never will be the same in Life now that I’ve been Bless with the Gift of music.

There is no looking back and everything is looking ahead.

If only to remember of things I used to be.

Paying the piano skillfully is some people’s greatest life’s ambition, and He chose me.

Psalm 33 : 3 Praise the Lord with the harp; Make melody to Him with an instrument of ten strings.

Sing to Him a new song; SKILLFULLY with shout joy.

In business, I once read…in order to change the world, one must first change themselves first from within.

I’m now at the mark of 63 years of age, ready to change the world from the Gift of music that is continually growing from  within me.

The story is about Khalife’L Scissorhands, Hair Stylist/Platform Artist.

All the way from Sunny California to appear tonight on the stages of Hair Wars.

The show starts @ 6:05 pm.

I’m De Derrick, Hair Fighter/Blogger @ Healthy Image Hair Salon 6525 Second Ave., inside the William Clay Ford Athletic Building, Detroit, Michigan.

I was, early for the show as usual I like to be on time.

I can always say that about Hair Wars…starting the show on time.

Doors open up @ 5:00 pm and I was very much ahead of my self because I was at the hotel at 4:30.

Keeping in mind, that the early bird catches the worm and the prize gose to the finder.

 One never knows  who you will meet before and during a Hair Show or for any show for that matter.

It’s all entertainment anyway.

I have VIP seating and  found a nice table close to the stage side.

Before, the show started, I had a moment to glance @ the line-up.

Hummm, let’s see here, Ruby Jean Davis, she’s from Las Vegas…

Von Jour Reece, Fashion Designer…

Keith Matthews, Beauty Village Beauty Salon…

Ms Thang Gloria…

and oh! Boy!! Little Willie.

Wait, a mintue….I noticed an unfamiliar name here.

His name is Khalife’L Scissorhands, all the way from California.

SHOW TIME!…SHOW TIME!!…SHOWTIME!!!

Time now, 6:05 pm, and the ballroom lights were dimming down low.

Let the show begin!!!

Appear on stage was Hump the Grinder.

Hump introduced tonight’s Commentator, Ms. O’kela Neveaux .

O’Kela, walked out on the stage and the show was on with the first act,

Ali D’Shua

 then next Khalife’L Scissorhands.

Looking @ the program, it’s that cat from California…Khalife’L Scissorhands.

The ballroom lights were turned completely off and a spot light was the only light that shined on stage.

The music played that spooky organ music that you might remember from a late Sir Grave Ghastly spooky grave yard seen.

The smoke machine, filling the stage floor area and over flowing unto the runway while the cry wolf hollowing as if it was a full moon.

Was this going to be Thriller show??

Suddenly, appeared out on stage and between the smoke walked out        Khalife’L Scissorhands.

Khalife’L was dressed in Black, Black, Black a leather jumpsuit making a Stand and Statement in Entertainment.

Moving slow, and mysterious staring at crowd with his sinister eyes line with black liner and eye shadow projected a look not to be trusted.

The man wore a scary curl that draped down his back and his bangs were stacked and hung over his left eye.

I looked at Khalife’L hands and I see why they call him Scissorhands.

Now image this, the man had 3 Scissor’s in each hand…clicking and waving around as if he was out of control…click, click, clicking of the Scissors  moving faster and faster, as if they were electric motored inside of his gloves.

Khalife’L knew exactly what he was doing, and he was doing it well, a true Showman and Entertainer.

The audience by now was in state of jaw dropping suspense.

I, myself  was a little shook up as well.

Not, wanting to take my eyes off the stage and yet I held on to my seat.

If, this was a dream, and I were 60 years younger, I would be a kid.

I would have by now,  have pulled the covers over my head screaming and shouting…Momie!! Momie!! the Boogie man is out try to get me and he has scissors in each hand.

But check out the turn of events with model now on stage.

Khalife’L had two models with him that joined him out on stage.

Meet his first model….

One was a HaireCopter that blond in color and trim with lights…give her a hand, for Creativness  coming from the commentator O’kela Neveaux.

Khalife’L, next model is a short cut and curl, that’s stacked in the back, shinning bright the two-tone red, the girl is definitely outer sight…give her a hand and another hand for Khalie’L Scissorhands…all the way from California, Mr. Khalie’L

For 5 stars for skit Performance.

After Sicessorhand hair chilling present…I made my way back stage to welcome Khalife’L to Detroit and congratulation on a job well done.

 

 

 

BAD Hair Day

I’m so excited, to be announcing the beginning of an 18-year-old plan to start my own Business.

The show will be visiting other Salons  coming together with other stylists discussing their views and comments about the Before Look and the amazing After look of Reality upon leaving the salon.

I’m De Derrick, BAD HAIR DAY, Hair Stylist/Barber/Blogger an a Hair Fighter, Healthy Images Salon, 6525 Second Ave, Detroit,Michigan…inside the William Clay Ford athlete Building.

I needed a Hair Do…like right now that’s suitable enough for a Super Hair Fighter on… his way to be Hosting my new developed Salon Reality Show.

I need a press n curl and a precision cut.

And, for that demand, theirs only one man I know that can precision cut and style my hair in vision that I see in my head.

The man is Bad, and quite a charter.

I’m talking about my friend Stylist/Entertainer Khalife’L Scissorhands.

Yes, Scissorhands, and he’s cutting with 5 shears… on the left and 5 on the right…oh may, oh may, you might say.. all dressed in black.this man could cut a hole in a rug.

Khalife’L, is best to be known as sharpest guy I know while on stage of a Hair Wars show always cutting up with stage action.

So, there it is in a nut shell.

Mind you now that been the  Hair Fighter…I could easily curl my own Hair as fast as you can blink an eye, but it just won’t do without that cut… it’s all that I needed.

I called for an appointment and Khalife’L scheduled my for 3:00 pm…3 sounds good to meI’ll be their. .

I was in the area, so I decided to get so lunch and make some last-minute calls for my BIG day tomorrow.

I kept my faith and belief in God, I’ve worked hard and never losing the site of my Dreams and Ambitions in Life…and just think tomorrow it will be happening.

Time now 3:00 pm, and, I’m now walking through the doors of the salon.

Their he was the Sicessorhands Man sharping up his scissors.

Hey Hair Fighter…how doing?

Just great Bro., I’ll be even better when you hook me up on my Hair Do.

Don’t worry, you’re in good hands with Scissorhands.

Let’s go to the shampoo bowl first and then I’ll cut you hair in The Styling Den.

 

Ok, let’s get busy as Khalife’L began to start my services by draping me and instructing me toput my neck  back into the shampoo bowl.

Theirs nothing like a nice relaxing shampoo, as I thought to myself almost sleep, as worked his magic fingers on my head.

Sit up Hair Fighter, as Khalife’L towel bolted my hair and began combing through it.

Khalife’L, asked me had I any breakage of your hair lately?

No, I’m in good shape.

I took a nap and hope I held my head right, while he curled my hair.pening my eyes I seen the host of my brand new Salon Reality Show…the Super Hair Fighter.

Now this is what I’m talking about a style worthy crossing a country mile.

By, the way Khalife’L do you have some BOUGEWA’ to spary on my side and neck line.

Sure, De, their you go…how dose that feel?

Great!! I love the refreshing feeling after a hair.

When making this statement “love to write” was in reference to my handwriting skills.

I’ve always been told that “you have beautiful handwriting” or “you write like a girl”.

Well, I take after my mother, Norma Smith, for she has the most beautiful handwriting by far in the world if you ask me.

  As a child growing up, I would write just to see how fancy my handwriting could be or to see if I could copy my mother’s hand writing.

I just Love to write, so I wrote and wrote and kept journals recording my daily Life activities.

 

 

I figured  out one day…  to my surprise, it wasn’t that  I would call myself an author or writer… I just enjoyed writing.

  I consider myself Creative in Nature with Expression, Desire and Passion for the art of writing that bring out the Best in me.

I believe God in all His Glory, with His wonderful sence of humor  increased my territory with my writing abilities every time that I stated that “I Love to write” He just answered my wishes.

I now, write a word from God into almost every Blog that I write for His Glory to deliever a message Inspiration, Love and Hope to a Hurting world. 

  I possess  a typing speed of about 85 wpm, and about 3 errors…how Cool is that?

 

I’m Bless beyond measures, been able to do my own typing, giving me the advantage of saving time and money by not having to hirer  someone to do the typing for me.

 God knew before hand, that in that year of 1971,  I would enlist into the services of the USAF, and wouldn’t you know, it that I would  be trained as an Administrative Clerk Typing Specialist and to this day I’m using my Gift in a special way…giving him the Glory.

Once the military trains a Man or Woman, you you’re trained for Life…some things you just don’t forget and military training is one of them.

I will never forget the things God has done for me in my Life, so I will continue to write for the Whole world to see… the Goodness of God’s and how he Blessing me.

My given name is…Derrick Smith, so you see, I had to come up with a name quick.

 I’m no way ashamed of the family name, and Smith is so common but, I needed a name that  says entertainment and excitement…..so was born

One day while working in the salon, I over heard one of the operator’s talking about the “Hump The Grinder’s” Hair Wars shows.

That night and I made my arrangments and found some ticket’s for the up coming show.

Yes, Hair Wars!!

Hair Wars, giving the opportunity to hundreds of Hair Stylists, Barbers, Manicurist, Hair Braiders along with other performers  their chance to shine and to show off to the world their skills, talents and showmanship in entertaiment.

I remember first invitation to attend a Hair Wars show @ the now demolished Grand Quarters.

There where I the chance to meet for the first time, the Big guy, with a generous heart, Hump the Grinder.

 

 I signed up that night for the next show, and after that night … I was on the road, signing up for show after show my life was changed for ever…averaging 3 – 4 shows annually.

 

Twenty years later, I’m still in the midst of the battle, but on the side line in so-called retirement mold from entertainment and the Back Stage thrills!

 

Finding a new niche in life adding information and entertainment by way of….

 Dee, arrived on time 4:30, and ran his mouth all the way..talk, talk, talk.

 We arrived at the Hotel a little after 5:00, and the fare was $40!.. but it was worth to be @ another Hump the Grinder’s Hair Wars Show and to write this story.

Walking through the lobby of  hotel, I couldn’t help thinking about last year Hair Wars Show.

 The show was held here with same and starting time, 6:05 pm.

The starting time 6:05 every since I could remember.

6:05 pm, has been incorporated into the making of Hair Wars and it a good idea to start on time.

In all my years, I never was short of the time waiting for a show to start or set up…Hair Wars as always lived up to it’s calling…6:05 pm show time starting.

 show by never-failing to not start the show on time.

I am now in the process of getting my hand stamped, while checking in I met a friend.

The music had me moving and grooving.

I’m like most anyone else, when dancing is in your blood.

In a small way, I was dancing in my own space and time, having a ball feeling the music as I watched  the people starting to coming in.

 

It’s finally here Hair Wars night Oh Boy!!!

As I turned my body into a dance step looking over my shoulder guess who I see?

 Well, well, well.. I’ts Bernard.  

He was here at the last year Hair Wars and its good to see him today.

Oh boy! maybe I can get some of his Leaf of Life, Silicone and Pure Oil Spray Shine.

Bernard and myself go back to the days of yesterdays of the early 90’s when hair show were of a different time.

Bernard, distributor, of Genesys hair products.

 I love the leaf of life that leaves a shine that you can see…we updated our contact information and I purchased 2 bottle Leaf of Life, Silicone and Pure Oil spray shine.

I went to the restroom to freshen up a bit…thinking to myself while combing my hair, visualizing to the man in the mirror, just how far he’s traveled in the ranks of Hair Wars…and to the days of 4 to 6 models getting them ready for show time not to mention working on myself in costume character, as the Hair Fighter, bringing  a smile to myself, in knowing that it was all worth it.

As, I proceed back out into the Ballroom area, I walking in  a good feeling of personal inner growth.

Once again, I saw Bernard…..setting at the table.

 I joined him, being that it was so close to Show Time…. might as well count it down with a friend,  just as if it were a New Years Eve . 

The time was 6:03 pm and the clock was ticking down to the last-minute… three!!!…two!!…. and one!

6:05 pm Show Time….

Hump appeared on stage announcing the beginning of Hair Wars.

With a little hair news and updates, he also introduced Okela Nevaeux, Hair Stylist, On Style Beauty Salon, Farmington Hills, MI.,  as the Commentator for Hair Wars.

                                      

Ms Nevaeux will be replacing the dearly departed forever LaToya Pearson.

After the formalities were over, Hump Introduced Reggie Reg House Music…and the show was on. 

 

  Oh, well, this is where we part company, see you later Bernard, it’s time to go to work Back Stage in the dressing room.

                                                           

While on my way to the dressing room I saw Yo Yo, Yolanda.

Yo Yo was off to the side with her models, she hadn’t checked in yet, but was prepping her models…Yo Yo had some cute styles.

 One style in particular is the Red Hot number…Yo Yo, also was sharing the hype on stage with her young daughter alone with another model

…looking swell with a full body of curls with an added bounce….

After having my hand stamped, I walked into the room, filled with people buzzing around.

 I just watch for a moment to gather my thoughts before making a move.

The heat and the excitement was in the air and everywhere.

 even body painting was walking around showing off their artistic colors.

Rhine stones was glettering and sparkling bright, with everyone having the same show time gleam in their eyes…just waiting to perform. 

Show Time, Show Time….with no time to spare!!!

Watching everyone, busy at doing something, completing their task, and working towards their completing their assignments  staying on scheduled time.

….IT’S SHOW TIME…and off they went to open the show….

This kind of activity reminds me of how ants all work together in their work place in accomplishing their instinctive work mission. 

The room was set up with tables and place cards that marked the stylist spot with their names on it.

Mirrors, clips, combs, brushes, hair spray, spits, curling irons, pressing combs, hair of all types and color and any other essentials for styling to capture that show ready look.

Most, of the stylist’s had an assistant in prepping the models helps in moving thing alone, getting them ready for the final touch of the stylist .

Remember Murray’s law…anything that can go wrong, will go wrong….key is to learn to move on.

 Back stage and the dressing room is where you apply  such a law…remember also the show must go on!

Stylist!… be sure to fill out the Stylist Information form was complete.

In a show of this size, it’s customary for the Stylist to have their model’s hair style completed or near to completion, during this gives the Stylist the opportunity to touch up the hair at a later time.

Makeup is checked once again for the looked of appearance and glamour and picture ready.

Last minutes dance Routines or check wardrobe fitting and adjustment can also be done at this time.

Finally, after all these years, I get a chance to speak to Ruby Jean Davis, Las Vegas, NV, 1212 Owens.

I remember the first time I saw Ruby on stage 1997 Anthem Hotel, Detroit, Michigan.

 Ms. Ruby… always would come out with Big Hair aas she takes her walkk down the runway every so eleneagnt  and she does it well with honor, pride and respect for the industry of hair.

The room was really buzzing and everyone had something to do and my present fit in as I took notes.

  The room was large enough for everyone to be comfortable in their own corner work place.

I slowly went over to Tropicana, corner and observed,  9 models, all sort of colors, straight and wavy hair, sort and long.

I was setting in the path way of the returning models after performing on stage.

The last model, stopped spoke to me and mention to me that I didn’t recognize her.

Well, truthfully I didn’t…but as the young lady she kept on talking it came to me Rashell, Ms. Ray Hair Stylist from the east side.

I remember now, 8 years ago, in helping Ms Ray out with some internet advertising.

 It’s been a long day, so I decided to sit and rest my feet while going over some notes.

 I shared the table  area with the Dance group the World Treat School Dancers and they asked me to watched their personal items while they go and perform  on stage.

Thank to Lamar for sharing information about the dance group.

 

I talked with Weaven Steven briefly while he was working his weaving hair magic.

Keeping in mind that time is the essence, and time is what matters most  tonight….keeping the show moving along  as schedule.

I remember when Steven first shock the Hair Wars Nation as the first white boy in the army of Hair Wars, all the way from PA along with 3 models all dressed in hair and hair style to match.

Model call!!…Called out the stage hand…

Yolanda Carroll…Tony Hair Weave Kiliah…Barb Miliz…Weaven Steven and K. Mersier line up and since they were closing act 1.

I decided to follow the Stylist’s and their models as they began their journey to the stage were they will perform.

We traveled  down the elevator, around the corner, down the hall and through the kitchen and out the door, finally we found ourselves lining next to the stage

This will close Act 1 .
